Roasted Pears Recipe

Every year my Mom would can food from our very own garden so the family would have fruits and vegetables all winter long. She canned peaches and green beans, froze corn, made grape juice, stewed tomatoes, chopped her own salsa, and mashed her own raspberry jam. My favorite of all the food she lovingly canned were the pears. I can still picture the perfect rows of glass mason jars filled to the brim with the white juicy goodness of this wonderful fruit and can hear the “ping-ping-ping” of the lids signaling to us that the jars were sealed. My sisters and I all loved to eat the pears right out of the jar with a spoon, but the best part was to be the lucky recipient of drinking the pear juice after the jar was empty of its fruity contents. Oh….so good! My mom still cans pears to this day, and yes, she still gives them to me. And yes, I still drink the juice if I can beat my kids to it!

With this love of  pears, it’s no wonder that at this time of year our counter always has a box of fresh pears waiting to be gobbled up. Although I love just eating the raw pears, I also enjoy a roasted pears.

1 pear
Cut the pear into wedges (about 8 per pear) and place in a glass baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake in oven at 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
1 medium pear = 103 calories

We are enjoying roasted pears with grilled pork chops, in smoothies, on salads, with Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, or a topping for ice cream. So simple, so easy, so delicious!
