Homemade Energy Bar

To me, working out means… sweating achieving goals conquering a new routine trying something new reaching a new speed lifting a heavier weight pushing out one more rep rewarding my body

Yes – I said rewarding my body. Our bodies are absolutely amazing and should be rewarded for carrying us through each and every task we put it through, especially a workout! The reward comes in the form of food, but not just any food. The food should contain clean and healthy ingredients. One perfect reward comes in the form of this homemade energy bar which is lovingly named the “Reward Bars” at our house. It is the perfect reward to have as a morning or afternoon snack on the days you workout because it has a higher ratio of carbohydrates to refuel energy, healthy fats to keep you feeling full and satisfied, and protein to aid in muscle and tissue recovery. I also love it because it tastes amazing. A-MAZ-ING. And it’s a healthy mama creation, so you KNOW it has to be easy.

REWARD BARS *makes 5 bars
1 cup oats
1/3 cup vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
2 Tbsp ground flax seed

Mix all ingredients together. Divide into 5 equal parts and shape into bars (crumbliness goes away when you start to shape into a bar). Store in ziploc bags in the fridge or freezer. For added variety, add in coconut flakes, chopped nuts, or mini chocolate chips. Add 1/2 piece of fruit with the Reward Bar to add more calories if needed! *1 bar + 1/2 fruit is approximately 340 calories
